Lead Engineer – Fuel Cell Balance of Plants
Lead Engineer for Fuel Cell Balance-of-Plants is responsible for evaluating, designing, developing, and supporting industrialization of BTI ideas in Fuel Cell Balance-of-Plants components and overall system integration.
He/She will manage directly a local team and work with cross-functional team (COE engineers – Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Powertrain engineer / Sales and Marketing team, external engineering houses, consultants and academia).
He/she is responsible to nurture world-class product and engineering skills necessary to develop new breakthrough technologies in Fuel-Cell domain, promote it with key Customers, support in conducting joint Concept VOC meetings with customers.
Areas of Responsibility:
Responsible for evolving the concept into a matured functional prototype / integral design of new technology for Garrett in the Fuel Cell domain, its development and qualification to meet customer needs and established & future standards both internal and external to Garrett.
Responsible for working along with marketing teams / industry experts to understand the industry challenges / unsolved problems and differentiating opportunities on the new concept.
Responsible for driving Concept VOCs with Customers and ensuring differentiation needs are met, in liaison with Customer Management & Marketing teams.
Work closely with lead Customer to validate the CTQs in terms of performance, reliability, cost and create differentiation to support value pricing and strong position for Garrett.
Lead the design and development of the frozen concept with high differentiation, meeting all targeted customer needs and CTQs.
Work close with customer to identify the POC testing requirements / work with external labs to conduct the basic test to validate the design maturity.
Conceive and manage research contracts on innovative technical solutions of interest.
Drive all Engineering verification / validation planning on the initial prototype to run a minimum product performance / durability assessment.
Facilitate member working groups, in particular on specific assurance topics, stimulating innovative ideas and testing of new approaches
Work internally with COE / powertrain experts to evaluate the system level performance evaluation with benchmarking information to understand the differentiating opportunities. The role also demands developing initial BOM for the concept to driving an initial product level costing
Manages a team of designer and development engineer. Leading the development of concept with cross-functional team with COE engineers, Powertrain engineer / SBM team and other support teams.
Support STRAP and AOP inputs
Bachelor or Master of Mechanical / Automotive / Aerospace engineering or an equivalent combination of relevant education and training.
12+ years of total experience with at least 3 years’ experience as Engineering Manager.
Six Sigma GB certified. Knowledge of Agile and Scrum framework.
Proven experience in new concept/product development. Applied experience in implementing innovative solutions to technical challenges.
Thorough knowledge of centrifugal machinery, thermodynamics, Hydraulic and Fluid mechanics.
