B3-Senior Royalty Operations & Accounting Administrator
The Royalties Operations team are part of the Rights & Royalties group within Pearson Business Services. Their primary tasks are to ensure that advance payments and royalty statements are issued in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with contractual obligations. This includes the collection and verification of sales details, and accurate calculation of royalty payments. The team works closely with the publishing, legal, and subsidiary rights departments of Pearson Education, both collecting and providing information relating to royalty income and payments. In addition, they work closely with finance and business managers to ensure that advances provisions and royalty statements and payments are delivered in accordance with agreed timetables.
Within Pearson Shared Services there is a close working relationship with the Accounts Payable department, Finance Department and Business Managers. Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and Sarbanes-Oxley legislation in conjunction with ongoing process improvement is an important task.
The Specialty Royalty Advisor role focuses on the generation and creation of more complex and non-standard author statements, focusing on key proprietors e.g. Disney, and processing related author payments/resolving queries. It also includes proactive investigation and analysis of royalty related issues to ensure smooth transactions, maximum efficiency and achievement of service level agreements. All activities undertaken by this team are within the agreed policies and procedures of the individual operating companies.
This role will have responsibility for:
Ensuring that payments are made in accordance with key Author/proprietor contracts
Interact directly with Pearson’s most high profile and select authors to assist in resolving questions or concerns related to their royalty earnings
Ensuring that royalty statements are accurate and delivered in accordance with author contracts
Providing resolution of author queries in respect of statements and payments
Providing analysis and reporting to business units to support accounting and editorial functions
Responsible for the production and checking of quarterly and semestral Manual Statements for Key Licensors, as allocated
Extract large amounts of data, organize and summarize in a clear concise manner suitable for presentation to upper Management.
Related work and academic experience
3 years experience of working in an accounts / financial environment such as accounts payable / receivable, cash office or other accounting function
Experience in dealing with third parties, customers and suppliers
Experience of working in a Royalties department would be an advantage
Experience in problem resolution through tenacity and demonstrable ability to work in line with established policies and procedures

Strong analytical skills
High levels of numeracy with great attention to detail and accuracy
Research and problem solving skills are critical
Understanding of double entry book-keeping and basic accounting rules
Experience in using computerised accounting systems such as Oracle, OBIE Reporting, etc.
Experience in using Microsoft Office tools, particularly confident use of MS Excel (macros and pivot tables)
Experience in working under tight deadlines and managing a variable workload
Ability to deal with deadlines and pressure effectively
Ability to interpret royalty statements and royalty contracts
Ability to work with a large amount of data, extract critical information and present in a clear, concise manner including presenting results to executive management
Awareness of current policies, practices and procedures and information affecting the role, such as copyright law and accounting practices
