M&G plc is a leading savings and investments business which was formed in 2017 through the merger of Prudential plc’s UK and Europe savings and insurance operation and M&G Investments, its wholly-owned international investment manager.
The Operational Risk Analyst is an integral part of the Operational Risk team, within the second line of defence, responsible for the research, data production, analytics and reporting, to provide oversight and challenge of the first line in the effective management of its risks related to operational risks against the operational risk framework in accordance with the expectations of its customers, shareholder and regulators.
The key responsibilities of this role are to support the delivery of the Operational Risk team’s objectives to co-ordinate and maintain the effectiveness of risk management processes across the M&G plc business, and provide consolidated risk analysis and risk management information for Senior Management as required. This involves:
Initiatives to improve operational risk data quality and to aid collation and analysis of a range of operational risk information (including RCSAs, KRIs, internal and external loss events), consolidating and developing this information into suitable reporting formats for Operational Risk Committees/Governance Forums as required
Support the development and evolution of operational risk reporting for the Group;
Maintenance and administrative support of the operational risk reporting system – MetricStream, including supporting system updates and changes
Support the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process and maintain reports of issues and actions; tracking actions to completion, and reporting on the information captured
Working flexibly and building constructive and supportive working relationships with teams across the M&G plc and suppliers;
Keep abreast of industry trends, regulatory and business issues impacting self-certification.
Use of regulatory knowledge, business understanding and expert judgement, to quickly identify underlying issues and escalate issues, where appropriate.
Work with colleagues across locations within the Risk and Resilience function and the wider Business to ensure that M&G plc and its subsidiaries operate within an effective risk management framework
Contribute to the continuous improvement of methodology across Risk and work flexibly in support of the wider Risk agenda
Compliance – To understand and adhere to M&G plc’s Code of Conduct and, where appropriate, comply with all relevant regulatory policies. This includes completion of any mandatory training requirements.
Qualification and Certifications
Graduate/Post-graduate/MBA with 1 to 2 years or more, of experience in financial services industry, preferably with prior experience in Operational Risk/Risk Management/Internal Audit
A background in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics would be a significant plus
Experience, Knowledge and Skills required
Practical knowledge of business risk and control frameworks and how these map to evolving regulatory requirements.
Good reporting skills to build, publish and maintain reports and dashboards in Power BI with strong PowerBI reporting, SQL and Python skills
Good knowledge of Insurance and asset management products, systems and distribution methods would be desirable
Good analytical skills in order to identify key themes, suggest solutions and deliver on opportunities
Good stakeholder management skills, with the ability to successfully navigate a complex organisation as well as build strong relationships and work collaboratively with teams across the business
Ability to operate remotely, in a diverse and multi-cultural environment. International work or consultancy exposure would be a definite plus
